In their first run out in Scotland colours all seven women’s squads had a successful training weekend against a Yorkshire and North East of England select.
In Edinburgh the W50, W55, W60 and W65s used Peffermill pitches as ‘home’ whilst the W35, W40 and W45s travelled to Morpeth in Northumberland for their fixtures.
Each team played a full match on Saturday, April 2 and on Sunday, April 3. Scotland put on a good show with 10 wins, two losses and two draws. There were goals galore for the blues with 41 notched up over the weekend and 18 against, most notable the W55 and W60s, with 6-1 victories apiece on Saturday.
President Jacky Burnett said: “The aim of the weekend was for coaches to fine-tune their squads and give all teams the opportunity to run out against quality opposition. There was some cracking hockey played against fine opposition. Thanks to Yorkshire and North East for their joint organisation for being great hosts and for fielding strong teams.”
The first competition for the women’s squads is the Great Britain and Ireland 4 Nations in Nottingham in June, followed by the World Cup. The W35 and W40s will play in Nottingham, the W50, W55s in South Africa and the W60 and W65s in Japan. Check the calendar for more details.
