Scotland’s Masters squads signed off an impressive campaign at the Masters Indoor World Cup in Nottingham with five medals across six finals appearances during a packed week of international competition from 26-31 March.
Nine Scottish teams competed across the tournament, with representation in Women’s 35, 40, 55 and 65 categories alongside Men’s 40, 50, 55 and 65 squads. The Thistles Men’s 55 side also competed in the IMC event, a competition for second teams running within the wider World Cup structure. Across six days, Scotland’s teams played a remarkable 50 matches against some of the strongest masters sides in the world.
The medal haul was led by three silver medals. The Women’s 35s produced an outstanding run to the final before finishing runners-up to England, while the Women’s 65s also claimed silver after a strong tournament that ended with defeat to Germany in the gold medal match. The Thistles Men’s 55 side added another silver medal in the IMC competition following their final against England B.
The medal tally also included two bronze medals, with the Men’s 65s and Women’s 55s both securing podium finishes after strong campaigns. The Men’s 65s took bronze following their 2/3 playoff against England, while the Women’s 55s finished third after their playoff against the Netherlands.
With nine teams competing, 50 matches played and six sides reaching medal games, Scotland’s players once again demonstrated the strength and depth of the Masters programme on the international stage, returning home from Nottingham with an impressive five medals.
