I am an Australian living in England playing hockey for Scotland – to say I am confused is an understatement! I started playing hockey when I was eight, in a very small town in southern New South Wales. Apart from a couple of years off I have played consistently since this time. I have played in National invitational teams and tournaments all over the world and I have represented NSW, West England and Scotland, winning titles for all three, the most recent – the European Championships in 2023 with the amazing Scottish W60s. What a team!
I am, in my working role, the Chief of Staff and Director of Project Management for the Sizewell C New Nuclear Build. Professionally I am an Organisational Sociologist, so you could say teams is where it is at for me.
My goal as President is to build on the work already done by previous Boards and, to create an environment where Scottish Masters can be the best it can be….

I initially trained as a Quantity Surveyor and ultimately achieving Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and Fellow of the Energy Institute status, worked for 47 years in senior management positions (CEO, CCO, Managing Director, etc) in the Oil & Gas sector and latterly in the Offshore Renewables sector. I have played hockey continuously for Gordonians and Hazlehead Hockey clubs in Aberdeen since 1972 apart from 2 years when I played hockey in Qatar in the Middle East.
I am a Past President of Scottish Thistles and the immediate Past President of Scottish Masters. I am currently a member of the Scottish Masters M70 squad, started playing at M50 level and have played for M50, M55, M60, M65 and M70 squads at various World Cups, European Cups, 4 Nations Cups, Celtic Cups and International invitational Tournaments throughout the globe, accumulating just over 200 caps.

My background was IT but I moved into business resilience, helping companies ensure they survive if, or when, bad things happen.
Hockey wise, I played for Aberdeen Grammar for a few years but before that played in New Zealand and for Gloucester City, Havant and Petersfield. I was the Chairman of Wessex Masters League and played lots of indoor league.
I was an NPUA umpire in England before moving to Scotland where I have umpired both men and women’s Premiers and Indoor Leagues. With Masters I have umpired European Championships, World Indoors, Pan-American Champs (in Argentina) and many Home Nations, Spirt of Masters a Celtic Cups. I was in South Africa this year for the Masters World Cup.

I started playing hockey at Graeme High School and was a founding member of Graeme High School FP Hockey Club in 1987 and have been involved in the club committee since that point. The club is now part of Falkirk & Linlithgow Hockey Club. On the pitch I could be found in goals and was actively playing first or second team hockey into the early 2000s when I then took up umpiring regularly and stopped playing routinely, but still keep my eye in playing to help out when needed. I spend most of my time umpiring or umpire coaching these days and have been actively involved in Masters Hockey since 2001.
I have also been an active member of the East District Committee since the mid 1990s and have been a previous District President and at present the Secretary, Treasurer and one of the Umpire Convenors for East District. East District is a limited company, and I am also a Director.
I have been involved in organising a number of international events at Peffermill and was also for a time responsible for running the Indoor National League.
I work at Healthcare Improvement Scotland where I am Evidence Manager for SIGN and also Employee Director.
